I bought a new Canon SLR Camera a couple of weeks ago and was determined to learn how to use it properly.
Today was my first class at the CAE run by Terry Murphy . I had no idea that cameras could do so much and that I could use one that wasn't on auto.
This afternoon we went to the beautiful Nicholas Building on the corner of Flinders Lane and Swanston Street. I was so fascinated with all the things to take photos of that I lost the group. There is one in every class isn't there?.....
This is Owlie the clock. Isn't he special? He is made from recycled lino and other special treasures. I found Owlie through the Clock Adoption Agency run by the lovely Betty Jo who also makes stunning recycled lino brooches and other jewellery pieces. Owlie fits in perfectly to her new abode as you can see here.......
I did a Felting Workshop run by the lovely Mim yesterday and the above is the result. I'm really proud of it (if I do say so myself). Mim is a great teacher, very relaxed and so knowledgeable about felting. You can see her beautiful work on her blog. I am totally addicted and can't wait to do more.
I particularly love how the fabric at the end of my scarf gathers in due to the shrinking process of the fleece. There were some amazing creations at the Felting Workshop. My long time friend, fellow crafter and blogger Alison made an amazing creation. More photos soon.
All up it has been a very productive weekend. I finished a couple of projects that have been hanging around for awhile. I started these bibs a month ago for the new grandchildren of Ray and Rosemary who run Mt Pilot Tourist Farm. Ray and Rosemary gave us Chickie, Long Neck and Penny and we've spent a number of many happy weekends on the farm.
I've got a bit of a thing about making pillowcases at the moment. I couldn't work out how to make my pillowcases look perfectly finished on the inside and tried all sorts of things until my friend Donna showed me the "special way". It is very difficult to explain without a piece of paper to fold or I'd post about it.
Four of these pillowcases are going to my 89 year old Grandmother who is in hospital at the present time. I thought it might be nice for her to have something pretty to make her feel special. What do you give someone who has everything? I've used a combination of Heather Bailey "Pop Garden" and Amy Butler Lotus fabrics. They have a lovely fresh feel about them that I thought might go well in a not so fresh hospital.

He is rather cute isn't he? Master Melways is a zippered coin purse. The photo isn't that great. I have been using Miss Ruffle's camera which is much better than our old one but the battery is flat. I will post this little guy in the Map 29 Shop soonish with his other releatives. This pattern is one of Nikki's fabulous patterns with instructions that leave nothing to the imagination.
A Tawny Frogmouth! Is he beautiful? In the seven years we've lived in Brunswick I've never seen one. We are not near bushland so having this beautiful bird as a visitor is a rare treat indeed.
I've nearly got my new Map 29 Website finished now and would really like to make a button to link it to my blog. Does anyone know how to do this? I get lost when it comes codes etc. Any help would be great appreciated :). I am always happy swap a gift with some knowledge.
I don't normally blog my Charity Knitting but I was so happy with this one that I had to share it. The poncho basically comprises of four Granny Squares sewn together to make a poncho. This poncho is going to a Women's Shelter in chilly Hobart. Hopefully it will warm the bones (and heart)of someone who needs it. I've used Machine Washable Wool from Bendigo Woollen Mills. Bendigo Wool is Australian made and really nice to knit with.
Meet the Grande Dame of Melways purses. The Great Aunt of Miss Melways. This purse is made from Nikki's 150 mm Purse Frame Kit Pattern . I've used iron on vinyl for this purse but am not sure that I like it as much. it doesn't feel as good even if the vinyl does protect the map fabric. I will be selling these purses and fabric very shortly. In most cases I'll be able take orders for your street or suburb. The cities available are Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. We are off to Mt Pilot Tourist Farm for Easter. We can't wait. There is every sort of animal you can imagine. This will be our third visit . On our last visit we brought home Chickie who we think is a hen. There has been lots of clucking going on. No eggs yet though. We will be bringing home a friend for Chickie to scratch and shoot the breeze with. Miss Ruffle is beside herself with excitement about riding Oliver the pony and feeding Duncan the pig who will do tricks for food. Have a happy and safe Easter everyone!
